Another successful bridge action!

Monday, October 2nd, 2000 -- Seven cyclists biked the Bay Bridge in protest of a wide range of issues. The protest was an emergency response to the veto of SB 1629, "The Good Roads Bill", by Governor Davis on Friday, September 29, and to the US Army Corps of Engineers' rubberstamping of the plan to destroy the existing Bay Bridge (thus removing the capacity for rail) as well as numerous other issues of import.

PHOTOS of the ride (mostly from the Cuff-CamTM).

Press releases:

  1. Press release for Monday's Action is right here.

  2. Press statement for the press conference immediately following is right here.

  3. The press release for Wednesday's press conference in front of the court is right here.

  4. Press release following up on the court status of the riders Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000 is right here.

There are also some good news articles: Daily Californian, Berkeley Daily Planet, SF Examiner, SF Gate Breaking News.

Also a number of nice letters to the editor. Not to mention a big discussion on newsnet about whether the bridge bikers blocked traffic (they didn't) with some exemplary language in our defense. Check ba.bicycles newsgroup if interested.

Up until Wednesday, one rider was still in jail on bogus "Felony Conspiracy" and other charges, with bail set at $5,712.00!

MORE PHOTOS: official arrest photos.
For the press, here are slower-to-load, but somewhat higher-quality images.
